the Number One Question this Election

Who is Jesus voting for this Year?

Of course, you will rightly say He does not get a vote because He is not a citizen, but that would be looking at the case too narrowly. He may not get a vote but He can certainly sway the electorate one way or the other.

And since He is not around to ask that major interview question, we can only ask His followers. Ah, but there’s the rub, y’see.

The Christian Right is supporting Romney (as the Right always does, supporting the Republican and his stance on keeping the rich richer and keeping American fighting men dying to protect our corporate rights).

The Christian Left (yes, there is such a thing) is supporting Obama (as the left always does, supporting the unemployed and the welfare crowd and Big Pharma and anyone else who contributed a lot of money).

So, where does that leave us in our quest? The Body of Christ is stretched out before us, hands extending far to the left and to the right… and the picture that summons up is not a very pleasant one is it? Too much like deja vu.

Rather than look at His followers today, let us check the scriptures to see which way He would lean…

Actually, He seems to have been rather unpolitical at all. Supping with tax collectors and lepers, Sadducees and Pharisees, priests and prostitutes, Hebrews and Romans…

And He does not seemed to have taken any time out to back any candidate, then or now.

He seemed to only be concerned that we keep God first and to love one another as we would love ourselves.

As He seems to have been so completely apolitical, I see no reason anyone from either side should bring His name up at all.
